A Holly Jolly Christmas

Me and Brett looked at each other several times on Christmas and said "this is the best Christmas ever!" (actually, the only thing that could've made it better is SNOW)
We had so much fun. It's not always easy trying to split the family time, but this year worked out pretty well!

Here are some pictures from some events this Christmas break:

Playing Settlers of Catan. I love this game!

I am a happy wife again!!!

Isn't it beautiful??!! Sapphires are my favorite!

Probably the one and only family picture we'll
ever have with Shadow. He's getting pretty old, slow,
and stinky, so I wanted to make sure we got this
before he dies.
Oh, and don't we all just look beautiful in the morning???

My mom made Savannah her baby quilt (8 years late)
and surprised her with it on Christmas morning! It matches the
theme of her bedroom.

We thought we were attending the ugly sweater party.....I guess no one else got the message!
(Brett's turtle neck and women's vest was a total of $9 from the DI. I found mine at a yard sale in October.)

Photoshop fun

Me and Brett found this photo on the internet a few weeks ago:
HILARIOUS!!!!
So we decided to re-create it...

Goal accomplished

Remember my 'No Sweets' thing I talked about? Me and Brett have been going pretty strong! We've only messed up a couple of times each. And without making any other major changes in my diet, or exercise schedule, I have lost 5 POUNDS!! Yes!!! It's crazy how much easier it is now to say NO to all of the desserts and candy.
So now....I need to take out some other bad foods, and start working out a little bit more.

My next goal is to lose 4 more pounds. If I do, I'm going to CELEBRATE at TUCANO's with BRETT!

Merry Christmas from the Sommervilles!

The Spirit of Christmas

By the magical light of a small Christmas candle
A little old man tries to carefully handle

The small porcelain manger which serves as a bed
For the wee Baby Jesus to lay down His head.

In wonder he brings the manger up to his view,
Smiles at the baby and whispers, “I love you!

I love you for bringing this season of joy,
I love you for growing to a man from a boy;

For being our light and leading the way,
For being the spirit which makes Christmas Day!

You’ve been my mentor, my model, my hero and guide,
Please continue to help me and stay by my side.

I’ve tried to follow your teachings and give as you gave,
Reminding all to be kind and that it’s wise to behave.

Help me to serve others and bring them your light,
Especially the children, please bless them tonight!

Some have so very little, scarce food for their table,
You know how it feels - you were born in a stable!

Bless all their mothers and fathers with a knowledge that’s sure,
The best gift they can give is their love, strong and pure.

That’s the Spirit of Christmas when all’s said and done,
God’s gift of love, that came as His Son!”

Then back to His mother the child is returned
The Nativity glows as the candle is burned.

In a wink the little old man slips quietly away
Some say he goes up the chimney and climbs in a sleigh.

Whatever the case, His mission is clear -
Give unto others, bringing love and good cheer.

He flies into the night and bids us adieu
Doing for others what Jesus would do!

December!

25 Days til Christmas! I am so excited for the fun Christmas activities, music, and shopping to officially begin! (let's be honest, my Christmas shopping started in September)

I have entered in several Christmas contests, haven't won anything yet, but I am determined!! There's still a few weeks left!

Staying on the Christmas theme, here is a video I made last year. I posted it on youtube, and have actually gotten a few views! haha. Brett makes fun of me that I made a youtube video, which is understandable. Who does that?! Just ignore the poorly made video, and listen to the wonderful words of the song. This will forever be my favorite.

24 years old!

My birthday was 1 month ago, and I am just now getting around to taking the pictures off of my mom's camera! I can't believe I'm 24. It sounds so old to me. I still feel 17 inside.

I received wonderful gifts from my family and my best friend Kami.
And I am soooo grateful for everything!
I really wish I could adopt Becca. She looks like me, yeah?

Lemmons Christmas pics

It has become a tradition for me to take the Lemmons' pictures for Christmas every year. I love it! It is so fun and easy to take pictures when the family is so flippin cute!

Emma Jean Bean or the gangsta

Cindy Lou Who

Emma has been quite the 'gangsta' lately. So they decided to do a gangsta family picture. Cindy Lou Who doesn't quite get it.

bored and blogging

Are you all getting excited for Christmas?? I am!! I am so proud to say that I have sneaked Christmas music into Brett's ears early this year. Deep down, he can't resist the sweet sound. We have a great Pandora Christmas station going. Which I am listening to now. The best Christmas albums are Josh Groban and Faith Hill, with a little bit of Celine Dion in there.

I have gone over a WEEK without sweets and desserts! I don't think I have done this ever in my entire life. It feels like I'm starving myself a little bit, but I'll survive. At the beginning of this week, I made a 'no more soda' goal. I've done it once, I can do it again!

Today, I'm going shopping for some skinny jeans. My only 2 pairs ripped last winter (embarrassing). Have you ever had your jeans rip in public? I have. At least 4 times. Let me share:
  1. My cute overall flares ripped right on the bum in 8th grade. Luckily, Jenny Pickering let me borrow her sweatshirt to tie around my waist to cover it the rest of the day.
  2. My $80 Buckle jeans ripped right on the bum, again. At Disneyland my senior year. There was nothing I could do, so I just let my bright yellow underwear show.
  3. Blue $13 skinny jeans from Ross, ripped at work. Luckily I sat at a desk most of the day.
  4. Gray skinny jeans ripped at the dollar store, while picking out birthday cards.
So now let me ask you, where is your favorite place to buy jeans? good quality and cheap. (does that even exist?)

Last random bit for the day, last week, our office went out for a yummy breakfast at Gourmandies. Their breakfast was soooo tasty! I can't wait to take Brett to this place.

Yes...we did drive with the top down.

This was Melissa's breakfast, I am trying this next time!

Lake Powell

A few weeks ago, we took a trip to Lake Powell to get some last minute sunshine in! Our lovely Prowse friends came with us and I am so happy they did! Here are some pictures of the weekend.

We got there pretty late, so we slept at some random campground we found, on the ground. It. Was. FREEEZING that night. I can't believe I lived through that.

The next 2 nights weren't as bad though, we slept in a tent, and me and Brett zipped our sleeping bags together. I've decided Brett is like Jacob--he's always so warm!!

Wakesurfing!

Brett getting some air!

Our campground was beautiful!

List

I need to blog about:
  • Lake Powell
  • Christmas crafts
  • Birthday
  • and other random things
Me and Brett have started a NO SWEETS diet. Last Monday and Tuesday, I had enough doughnuts to last me a lifetime. And in between those doughnuts, were other yummy snacks. WHY DO I LOVE SUGAR SO MUCH?!!!

When we try to not eat sweets, it doesn't work out so well....
-Like when Stephanie and Brad made us yummy cookies and dropped them off at our house.
-Or Blaine and Kami making the yummiest brownies ever that taste like the Chocolate Melting Cake on the cruise!
-Or Brett's family making yummy scone things. I don't even know exactly what they were....but it was sugar, so of course I had to taste it. right?
All 3 of those were last week. (the same week as the doughnuts)

Anways....you people are killing me with your yummy desserts. And it's only going to get worse with the holidays arriving. So PLEASE do not offer me and Brett dessert. Please don't tempt us. Please don't ask us to go out to a fatty restaurant.

We are going to have 'free days.' Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Year's Eve.
Our reward if we succeed: taking ourselves to some of our favorite 'healthy' restaurants.

I'm an Introvert

I got this list from my friend Lindsay today. Most of these things describe me perfectly!!

10 Myths about introverts

Myth #1 – Introverts don’t like to talk. This is not true. Introverts just don’t talk unless they have something to say. They hate small talk. Get an introvert talking about something they are interested in, and they won’t shut up for days.
Myth #2 – Introverts are shy.Shyness has nothing to do with being an Introvert. Introverts are not necessarily afraid of people. What they need is a reason to interact. They don’t interact for the sake of interacting. If you want to talk to an Introvert, just start talking. Don’t worry about being polite.
Myth #3 – Introverts are rude. Introverts often don’t see a reason for beating around the bush with social pleasantries. They want everyone to just be real and honest. Unfortunately, this is not acceptable in most settings, so Introverts can feel a lot of pressure to fit in, which they find exhausting.
Myth #4 – Introverts don’t like people. On the contrary, Introverts intensely value the few friends they have. They can count their close friends on one hand. If you are lucky enough for an introvert to consider you a friend, you probably have a loyal ally for life. Once you have earned their respect as being a person of substance, you’re in.
Myth #5 – Introverts don’t like to go out in public.Nonsense. Introverts just don’t like to go out in public FOR AS LONG. They also like to avoid the complications that are involved in public activities. They take in data and experiences very quickly, and as a result, don’t need to be there for long to “get it.” They’re ready to go home, recharge, and process it all. In fact, recharging is absolutely crucial for Introverts.
-This myth isn't really true for me...I could spend DAYSSS in Disneyland. and never ever get sick of it.
Myth #6 – Introverts always want to be alone.Introverts are perfectly comfortable with their own thoughts. They think a lot. They daydream. They like to have problems to work on, puzzles to solve. But they can also get incredibly lonely if they don’t have anyone to share their discoveries with. They crave an authentic and sincere connection with ONE PERSON at a time.
Myth #7 – Introverts are weird.Introverts are often individualists. They don’t follow the crowd. They’d prefer to be valued for their novel ways of living. They think for themselves and because of that, they often challenge the norm. They don’t make most decisions based on what is popular or trendy.
Myth #8 – Introverts are aloof nerds.Introverts are people who primarily look inward, paying close attention to their thoughts and emotions. It’s not that they are incapable of paying attention to what is going on around them, it’s just that their inner world is much more stimulating and rewarding to them. - This sound really weird....but true.
Myth #9 – Introverts don’t know how to relax and have fun. Introverts typically relax at home or in nature, not in busy public places. Introverts are not thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies. - Actually, I'm a huge thrill seeker. If there is too much talking and noise going on, they shut down. - I do this a lot. Their brains are too sensitive to the neurotransmitter called Dopamine. Introverts and Extroverts have different dominant neuro-pathways. Just look it up.
Myth #10 – Introverts can fix themselves and become Extroverts. A world without Introverts would be a world with few scientists, musicians, artists, poets, filmmakers, doctors, mathematicians, writers, and philosophers. That being said, there are still plenty of techniques an Extrovert can learn in order to interact with Introverts. (Yes, I reversed these two terms on purpose to show you how biased our society is.) Introverts cannot “fix themselves” and deserve respect for their natural temperament and contributions to the human race. In fact, one study (Silverman, 1986) showed that the percentage of Introverts increases with IQ.

Fall is here!

The weather has felt wonderful for the past 2 weeks! Salt Lake is finally having a real fall! I still prefer the 90 degree summer weather, but it's nice to cool off a bit.

Two weeks ago, we had another young women retreat at the most amazing cabin I have ever seen. Most of the day was spent in the kitchen, cleaning dishes and eating leftovers until I felt sick. But the delicious food was worth it! I wish I didn't love food so much.... In the picture above, is the most amazing staff: Amanda, Melissa, Kristen, and Elizabeth.

Speaking of the most amazing staff, Kristen was so kind to buy me cookies for my birthday! The ghosts were the most tasty.
I wish I didn't love cookies so much.....

They also decorated my desk with some pictures from my blog! Steph, look close!

Another video...

I know, I know. I post a lot of videos. Probably because the people in them have more important things to say than I do.

I am constantly amazed by the teachings we receive from our Church leaders. They are so inspired!!!! I listened to to this talk by Elder Bednar a couple years ago.
This video made me so sad. It is so true.

It's all fun & games until someone gets hurt....

Me and Brett had a VERY fun weekend!! We seriously have the best friends in the world, and we're so lucky that they love to be with us as much as we love to be with them!

Friday, we spent some quality time with the Prowse family! 3 weeks is way too long to go without seeing them. We went to the yummy Red Iguana for dinner, and watched a few Office episodes until me and Kami fell asleep!

I went to my FIRST BYU Football game on Saturday. It was quite the experience!! Really, anytime I go down to Provo, it is an interesting experience!

The Godfrey's had extra tickets and invited me and Brett. Luckily, we arrived in Provo a few hours early, so we didn't have to deal with too much traffic. We started off by having dinner at Wingers, one of Brett's favorite restaurants!

Obviously I don't know the BYU fight song, and I have never heard it before in my life. I could not help but laugh when everyone started singing: "Ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra" It sounded like a bunch of dogs barking. haha! I loved it though.

It was freezing!!!

These Cougar tails were huge! and very yummy!
and.... our husbands are the cutest.
We had an amazing time with our awesome friends!

On Sunday, we finally got to meet Lydia Thurgood. She is the cutest baby of all time! At first, it made me a little baby hungry....but then Megan changed Lydia's diaper 3 times in 15 minutes, and I was back to my normal self. I'm good with just being an aunt for now!
Megan was kind enough to let me feed little Lydia her bottle. It definitely takes practice! Well....I messed up. I was trying to feed her when she wasn't swallowing it....and I almost killed her. She gagged, and couldn't breath for a few seconds. I was on the verge of tears. I felt so horrible (and still do). I will never ever feed another baby unless it's my own. I'm lucky to still have the Thurgood's as my friends after that traumatic experience! ;)

Next fun thing on the list:
Lake Powell!
