Day 2: Thanksgiving in California

Thanksgiving day was a simple one! Lots of football, lounging around, food, and football....
We drove around looking for a newspaper. It's not Thanksgiving unless I can look at some ads! On our drive we found this road. Come to find out, its named after Brett's uncle! Who knew?!

Then we came across a VERY wealthy looking neighborhood. I wouldn't mind living in a house like this some day.

A 4 generation picture! Cute Sommerville boys and little girl.

This makes my heart happy!

Day 1: Thanksgiving in California

Sort of last minute decision, we decided to join Brett's parents and go visit Grandpa Burl in California. We haven't seen him for a few years, and thought that Teagan should meet him before anything sad happens. :(

We were able to fly for free with my Southwest points, and stay in our hotel for free with my Marriott points. Credit cards are the way to go, I tell you!

Since Southwest doesn't fly into Fresno, we flew to Oakland (cheapest place to fly). And drove what was supposed to be a 3 hour drive to Fresno, turned into about 5 hours. Traffic was a nightmare. I will never live in California for that reason alone.

Teagan got a new boyfriend on the plane. She is the biggest little flirt. We are in trouble!

Immediately after we got our luggage, we drove up the hill to go see the Oakland Temple!

We then realized we left my camera on the plane! :( (No worries, they found it and shipped it back to me, phew!) So for the remainder of this trip, you will see very low quality photos.

Teagan's first time meeting Grandpa Burl. She loves him!!!

She's 7 months old?!

6 months was fine...but 7?! That just sounds too old. Stop growing up Teagan!

I've been taking these pictures since she was 1 month old; next to Little Bunny Foo Foo. Aunt Kristen (my boss) gave this bunny to us.
Too bad the lighting can't stay the same in all of the pictures. my bad. :(

She is getting so good at smiling for the camera though. Good thing she's getting used to it now!

This bike onesie was Brett's favorite

Trax from my iPhone, part 2

Trax will never get boring, ever.
You can read my first trax post here.
I hope I don't offend anyone by sharing the pictures that entertain me! It's really all good fun!

There is a little tiny baby in this duck costume. Her feet would occasionally wiggle. Awww!

This couple have the cutest clothes on every single day. This day in particular, they looked like they belonged in a Gap magazine.

We all need to remember to stretch!! (I really was a little shocked how comfortable, and CLOSE she got to me while stretching!)

I never caught on to the whole duct tape thing.

This man takes his scooter riding seriously, and safely.

The next 3 pictures: COMIC CON. This is my favorite week to ride on trax!!! (no sarcasm here, I really do love it)

I'm really trying not to sound racist. Because I'm not. But every so often on Temple Square, there is a big group of Asians on a tour. This group was particularly large. I am a little jealous of all the nice cameras they have!

Now THIS guy was entertaining!!

No words for this.

And then there is City Creek. I see the same homeless people almost every day, but this was someone I had never seen before. (yes, that is his/her bum. Give him/her a break, it was early)

The blondest hair I have ever seen!! Such a cutie.

Another cutie...I mean, how could I not take a picture of this?

I'm waiting for the day where I show up on someone's blog...known as the lady that always has her phone out taking pictures of other funny people. :)

The Tonight Show - Jimmy F.

I've never been a "regular" at watching talk shows. I'll watch them every now and then if I'm bored and have nothing to do. But ever since the Teagan came along...I don't think I'm ever bored. Ever.
There are a few times a day though, where I am stuck in a chair for about 15 minutes. Okay, I'll just tell you, I'm pumping. So, as pleasant as it is to sit and listen to that lovely little machine, it's nice to listen to something else.

I'm not sure how it happened. I think Jimmy just kept getting funnier and funnier. I subscribed to the Tonight Show on YouTube, and pumping is not so boring anymore! As I sat in the lovely little room at work pumping, I start laughing (pretty loudly) at this video.
It is BY FAR the funniest Jimmy Fallon video I have seen. Oh my goodness. Just please watch if you need a laugh.

My favorite part: when Jimmy pretends to smack someone with the white glove.
"Bring the carriage around!"

Meet the Mormons

I can't wait to see this movie. The church is just amazing, isn't it? The people are incredible. Everyone is so different and I feel like I have so much to learn!

I was able to take a tour of Welfare Square and the Humanitarian Center today (LDS Charities). There is so much to learn about what the church is doing, and what it is capable to do!
I am fiercely motivated to start doing some service. I've gotta convince Brett we need to go volunteer at least once a month! We just need to find a babysitter...hmmm.

Brett surprised me with a trip to Moab for my Mother's Day gift and my "push present." Our families were kind enough to babysit little Teagan while we were gone for about 36 hours. Yes, it was the quickest vacation ever, but we missed our baby, as silly as that sounds!

Kayaking down the river -- so much fun! In our group, there was a very nice family from France. They were on a 3 week vacation to the western states. I was not jealous whatsoever. ;)

We hiked to the Corona arch, and had the entire hike to ourselves!

We couldn't drive all that way, without driving a little further to the Monticello Utah Temple! It reminded us of when we visited the Nashville Tennessee Temple back here: so tiny!!

5 Years of Marriage!

I can't believe I've been married to this cute man for 5 years!!! I've known him for half of my life already, and time just keeps FLYING! I'm so grateful for him and all the hard work he's putting in for our family and for our future. I love you Brett Babe!!

Exactly One Year Ago...

I found out about this little girl:

(Does anyone else look at this picture and think that
my forehead is abnormally huge?! eek)

And boy oh boy I love her with all my heart!
More blogging will be coming soon.

I found out I was pregnant on September 11, 2013. Brett and I were headed to Nashville that weekend, so I thought I would wait to tell him the news when we got there. It was SUPER hard keeping that one a secret, let me tell you!

Right when we got to the hotel, I couldn't keep it in any longer. We were about to head to the temple, and I went into the bathroom to get everything ready to tell him. :)

Here is the video I took...don't look too closely. I didn't make sure he was completely dressed before I started filming. I debated sharing this video on the blog...but Brett's reaction is just too sweet I had to share.

I wanted to combine this Stikwood idea:
DIY Ikea hack Stikwood headboard
and this bookshelf idea:

for my cheap bookshelf from Ikea.
KILBY Bookcase IKEA The shelves are adjustable so you can customize your storage as needed.

Well Stikwood is beyond expensive. If I am ever a millionaire, I don't think I'd even buy it then. How can you charge that much for wood??! So I decided to do the Stikwood look and buy the supplies at Home Depot. (Does anyone else LOVE the smell of Home Depot?! Amazing) This Ikea bookshelf was about $25, and my supplies from Home Depot were about $25. A MUCH better deal than the $200 of Stikwood. psh.

We enlisted the help of Brett's dad. We knew Dean would love to help us, since he is such a project type guy. And let's be honest, Brett could use a few lessons when it comes to manly type projects. He only paid attention to basketball as a child.

So we spent a Saturday evening cutting, staining, and gluing all of the wood to the gray backing of the bookshelf.

After letting it dry overnight, we picked up the backing off the ground to put it in our car...and something like this happened:

On the bright side, luckily wood doesn't shatter...

We threw it in the back of our car anyway, to glue everything back down when we got home. By this time, Brett was so done with this project. I was shocked that he even helped me with it in the first place (He really hates my projects I come up with). He was convinced it wouldn't work. But there's no way I was going to let that $25 from Home Depot go down the drain!
So I glued it all down and let it dry once again overnight. The next morning before work, I wanted to carefully place it on the back of the bookshelf so I could nail it all into place.

And then:

But I didn't have a pool to jump into. So I just left the mess there, and left for work.

After Brett walked in on the mess, I think he started to feel bad that I was failing miserably. So he suggested some gorilla glue. Off I was after work to Home Depot to buy some $5 gorilla glue, and a different method in mind to glue it all down:
I nailed the backing to the bookcase first, then glued it all down.
Miracles do happen! It worked! and I LOVE it!
